William King: William King was a prominent figure in American history, known for his leadership and political influence during the Revolutionary War. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress from Virginia and served as the first president of the United States in Congress Assembled.
Military Career: Prior to his political career, King served in the Virginia militia during the French and Indian War, where he rose to prominence as an officer. He also served as a colonel in George Washington’s army during the Revolutionary War, leading troops at several battles including Yorktown.

5 Legacy: After leaving office in 1783 due to ill health ,King returned home where he died shortly thereafter at age 48 . His legacy lives on through his contributions towards America’s independence from Britain ,and for helping shape early American government .
